Portal: You know, you've got it all wrong. No one cares about your little 'hobbies'. We have laws to deal with that. Yeah, mankind is close to the edge. There's only one way we're going to survive. You wanna know what it is? We're going to need to see the end coming. So we can stop it. Portal: That means we need predictability. Order. Economies and societies that can be monitored and trusted. That's why we're taking out people like you. Wallflowers, iconoclasts, introverts...Who needs them? Portal: Sympathetic magic on this scale is tricky, and slow. But we have to do it. Might take a dozen like you, might take a hundres...but we have to stamp introversion out of the human race. The world needs eager consumers to fuel the economy, happy socialites that can be read like an open book. Not unpredictable freaks who keep to themselves doing god knows what. Hank: You almost sound like you don't know what being a freak's like. Portal: I try to conform. That's all it takes to be one of the good guys. |
