Azile: But if demons are just thoughts, why do I remember being a man? Debbie: You're the demon of that person, Azile. Someone remembers a human being, and that memory created you. Azile: So I'm...not the person I remember? Debbie: You're not that person's soul, if that's what you mean. We're not talking about the supernatural. You've heard of Bobby Fischer, the chess master? He's still alive...but in Washington Square park, you can sometimes find his demon playing chess with the demon of Albert Einstein. Bobby: We're using the variations today, Albert! And don't complain about playing dice with the universe! Albert: Okay, okay... Debbie: Demons are created by humans' memories and beliefs. The memories of a person might not resemble that person much at all. But they are living things. Belief creates reality. Wirebound: Okay, miss know-it-all, tell me this. If I'm bulletproof, how did I just get bitten by a mosquito? Debbie: Can't help you there. Foil: The world just keeps getting weirder, man. |
